The first map charts nuclear environmental disasters across the former Soviet Union, from its European to Asian regions. The second map focuses on the Krasnoyarsk plutonium factory, which stands on the shores of the Yenisei River in central Siberia. The villages of Bolshoi Balchug and Atamanovo are downstream from the river, polluted by three decades of radioactive discharge from the factory.
