As you might be able to guess from it's name, the box pattern forms into a
square shaped chain. It is very useful for necklaces and decorative purposes.
The start
Start with a doubled chain of three. Flip the last two links back (one to the top and
one to the bottom). Then push them forward so that they push though the second set of
links making them open slightly. Put an open link through the links that you flipped so
that it sits inside the opening formed by the second set of links.
Continuing the chain
Insert a second ring right next to the first. Now when you pull the links on either
end, you should have the basic pattern. Link two more rings through the end links. Flip
those links back as shown above and continue the process.
Tips
It can be easy to lose your place in this pattern because the end links tend to flip
back on themselves. To keep this from happening, attach extra links to the beginning of
the pattern. Similiarly, attaching extra links as "placeholders" to the end is
useful if you want to set it down for awhile.
